About SolarRatings.org
SolarRatings.org publishes research-based reviews of residential solar installers across 15 US states. We are transparent about how we earn revenue and maintain editorial standards that keep our ratings honest and useful for homeowners.
Useful Reviews. Honest About How We Work.
SolarRatings.org was built on one premise: homeowners evaluating solar deserve accurate, well-researched information — not marketing copy dressed up as reviews. We publish installer rankings and data based on a documented evaluation process, not on commercial relationships with the companies we cover.
At the same time, we are upfront about how this site generates revenue. When a homeowner requests quotes through our site, we may earn a referral fee from our partner network (operated by directsolar.ai). That financial relationship does not determine editorial rankings — installers cannot pay to raise their score, receive a badge, or have a criticism removed.
We believe these two things can coexist: an honest referral relationship and a trustworthy editorial product. The disclosure below and our full methodology page explain exactly how we keep them separate.
Advertiser Disclosure
SolarRatings.org earns referral fees when homeowners request quotes through links on this site. This compensation may influence which installers appear on the site and the order in which they are displayed in certain contexts, but it does not affect our research-based editorial ratings or scores. We always recommend obtaining multiple quotes and reviewing all contract terms before signing.
How We Keep Our Reviews Honest
These four principles govern how ratings are produced and maintained. For full detail on the evaluation criteria, see our Editorial Methodology.
Research-Driven Ratings
Every installer is evaluated against our documented five-point framework — equipment quality, warranty depth, pricing transparency, verified customer reviews, and licensing standing. Scores are not influenced by commercial arrangements.
Transparent Revenue Model
We earn referral fees when homeowners request quotes through this site. We disclose this relationship clearly. Installers cannot pay to improve their rating, remove a criticism, or move up in our comparison rankings.
Regular Updates
Ratings are reviewed at minimum once per quarter. Material changes — such as ownership transfers, regulatory actions, or warranty modifications — trigger an immediate review cycle outside the standard schedule.
Multiple Review Sources
We do not rely on installer-provided testimonials alone. We cross-reference verified feedback from multiple independent platforms and flag patterns in both praise and complaints.
Who Produces This Content
SolarRatings.org is operated by the team behind directsolar.ai, a residential solar lead-generation platform. Our editorial content is produced by researchers with backgrounds in residential energy systems, utility rate structures, and consumer finance.
Because the company that operates this site also earns revenue from solar installer referrals, we maintain a documented separation between commercial relationships and editorial decisions. The rating criteria and scoring process are described on our Methodology page. If you have questions about how a rating was determined or would like to report an inaccuracy, you can reach us at editorial@solarratings.org.
